From Nov 2006 to May 2007, we explored Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia via motorboat, bicycle, motorcycle, and bus. When we were not learning about S. E. Asia through a camera lens, an omelet, or our volunteer jobs as farmers, construction workers, and schoolteachers, we spent a majority of our time on a bus. I found the bus dulls the mind, and my body becomes like mush. After a long bus ride, I’m mentally and physically exhausted even though the only challenge happened to be figuring out how to tilt the seat back.

After traveling this way for 6 months, I experienced a nagging reoccurring question: If my goal is to be artistically inspired, have an adventure, and experience new cultures, then what am I doing watching hundreds of miles of inspiration and education pass by me from a bus window?

The answer was obvious: BICYCLES! From our experience of meeting bicycle riders like Nicolai who is cycling around the world, and our own rented bicycle adventure “Journey to the Source of the Mulberry Leaf Omelet,” we are now committed to pedal power.

When we accepted our jobs in Stanley, Idaho summer 2007 we decided to sell our petrol transportation and enjoy the world by bicycle. We’re gearing up now to head south on our bikes. In September 2008, we will begin riding toward Argentina from Boise, Idaho.

The goal of the bicycle ride would be to demonstrate the practical and fun side of human powered travel, focusing not on the typical tourist destinations but on the local arts, business, families, environment and food. To meet interesting people along the way, we plan to contact people through HelpX, WWOOF, and Hospitality Club (this worked well for us in Asia). Brandon plans to take his guitar along and continue writing soundtracks for our short films as well as play at open mics.

Some people have asked how they can contribute to our journey. First, a person can purchase Earthworm Envy merchandise. Secondly, a person can check out our marketing page. We will show our appreciation for your support through advertising your product on our website using your logo and product placement in either our films, omelet reviews or bicycle stories.

If you’re an Al Gore fan, you can donate to the cause to offset your own carbon footprint. Check out our video podcast page (we need equipment), offer us a couch to crash on, hook us up with a spoken word show in your hometown, and lastly post of comment of encouragement on our site.
